Mine are at little different than your average husky, as they’re both very calm (unless you touch a harness or say walk/hike) But they’re great dogs. Clean up is an almost daily task (one of them is a singularity of endless fur) Very high prey drive, squirrels beware. They’re very curious too, and will just run and explore if given the opportunity, so the younger one (grey/white) I have to keep on leash when we go hiking.

Are they inside or outside dogs?

They spend most of the day inside but will get real anxious and mouthy if they don’t get to go outside in the yard to play (read: dig) or go for regular walks, especially if it’s cold & snowy. When we go camping they sleep outside though and like it. They definitely need more exercise & outside time than any other breed I’ve ever had.

I have a fenced in backyard, was thinking about having it as an outside dog. I'm a pretty active guy (daily runs, weekly hikes when it's nice out). How do they handle heat? I live right outside DC, so it gets pretty warm here mid August.

I wouldn’t leave them outside unattended for too long, as they’re serious escape artists by nature. (example below)
The heat is actually not that big a deal if you brush out their undercoat in the spring when they start to blow it off, the longer guard fur keeps the UV off their skin pretty and breathes well without the undercoat they have for the winter. But you still have to make sure they have plenty of water and aren’t just stuck in direct sun all day of course

Thanks for the advice. My fence is pretty high (about 6 and a half feet) and is a wooden privacy fence so I'm sure it'll be a little tougher to get out (hopefully).
